This contest is now closed, but we are so thankful for all who participated!

November is National Adoption Awareness Month

We, at Hip Homeschool Moms are celebrating with our own Meghan Tucker, from The Tucker’s Take Tennessee, as she and her family continue on the journey they began this summer….with adoption!  Yes, she and her family are in the process of adopting again and is bringing awareness to adoption through T-Shirts a friend designed for them to help raise funds for their  adoption.

Aren’t they amazing?

But, our heart is not just for Meghan.  It is for all of the families who have adopted are adopting and possibly feel call to adopting a sweet child…or possibly more than one!

Our world is hurting and we are called to help those who are orphans.  If you are a Christian, you have been adopted by the Father!

Romans 8:15 English Standard Version (ESV)

15For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit ofadoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

Galatians 4:4-7 English Standard Version (ESV)

Now that we know we have been adopted,we are to reach out to the orphans in the world…adopt them into our families and into the Body of Christ!

James 1:27 New International Version (NIV)

27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Help us celebrate Adoption Awareness Month.  Share your stories here….of your own adoption into the Body Of Christ, children you have adopted or perhaps stories about your friends you have ministered to during the long process of adopting!

In light of Celebrating National Adoption Awareness Month, Meghan is giving away one of her T-Shirts!!!

  1. I would love to win this shirt. Adoption has been on my heart and mind for the last two years.

  2. This is something that has been on my heart for a few months now. We have two children who seem to have the world. So for Christmas this year my husband and I are considering adopting them a brother and sister their age for them to support and grow up with. In hopes it will grow their hearts.

    1. Nikki, I am not sure if I am somehow misunderstanding this comment or not (I hope I am), but I find this highly offensive. Perhaps your family might be better off adopting a puppy. Precious children that don’t have a family are not Christmas gifts, or something to give our prilvidged children to “grow up with” with the intention of “growing their heart”- that would just be using them which would likely cause resentment. Orphans certainly don’t owe us anything and definately don’t want to be some rich family’s “solution”, they just want a forever family and unconditional love.
Please do your homework and make sure that adoption is the right choice for your whole family, it is life-changing and not something to take lightly.

      1. Oh no…I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you at all. I didn’t clearly explain myself. We as a family considering it our form of adoption. We are techniqually sponsoring two children through our churches program of feed the 5000. We are only going to be sponsering two orphan children but in our hearts that is as close as we can get to adopting and our children will think of them as their other brother and sister.
Again, I am so sorry for the confusion and didn’t mean to offend anyone personally.

        1. Oh, okay, I understand now – you were referring to a sponsoring program! Thanks so much for clarifying.
We weren’t all called to adopt, but we were all called to help, so that’s a wonderful thing as well!

  3. I’ve been dreaming of adopting for some time but we don’t meet the requirements for a lot of agencies I’ve looked into. I have 2 friends who have adopted through Reece’s Rainbow,

    1. Cindy,

Have you tried through social services? There are so many older children (older than 3) that need families/homes. Sibling groups, especially! It costs you nothing, you don’t have to be wealthy. As a former foster parent, it’s heartbreaking to see how many kids never find that forever family they so long for.

We adopted my oldest child after he was placed in our home.

Or become a foster parent. There is a terrible shortage of children who need love and support through difficult times.

      1. My husband and I are both self employed and we do not have health insurance so we do not qualify to adopt through social services either. You must have private health insurance that the adopted child can be added to and we don’t have that. Our kids are part of Florida’s Healthy Kids/medicaid plan.

        1. I’m sorry, Cindy. Hope I didn’t sound judgy or pushy. Was not my intent.
Insurance is horribly enxpensive. Your kids are fortunate to have such loving, hardworking parents! Blessings to you and your family!

  4. Love the T-shirt! Adoption has been on my heart for years……..I’m an adult adoptee! I’ve been so blessed by adoption and think it’s such a beautiful picture of Christ’s love for us as a part of God’s family. And one day, we hope to adopt as well : )

  5. We finalized our 3 year old son’s adoption TODAY!! We are so grateful to God for our precious addition. We began our process to adopt back in 2006, received our referral for our little boy in Feb. 2009, traveled in September 2010 to Thailand to bring him home, and finalized today. Words cannot express how the gift of his life and of adoption have blessed our family.

    1. casey, congratulations to you and your family! may God bless you in your journey. I’d love to connect with you and encourage you along the way- I wrote an article about the fact that it is not always easy to dig in and heal the hurts- but God can handle it!!! 🙂 the link is here- http://bit.ly/sweetestBlessings if you’d like to read it- God bless!

  6. I would love to win! My husband and I have 2 biological daughters then I was no longer able to have anymore. We truly felt that God wanted us to have more. After much ups and downs we have adopted 2 more girls!

  7. I have adopted 3 children from foster care and am in the process of our 4th adoption. God will provide. Money is not a reason to not adopt. Children everywhere need to be in a loving family to thrieve.

  8. I am blessed to say that we have experienced the love and heartbreak adoption brings through a child. In 1998 we adopted our 12 yr. old son who was in the state foster program. We also was awarded temporary custody of a 13 yr. old girl of whom we had care for all throughout her life. Our family blended so well, as if we had always been a family so again we adopted a 13 year old boy who was also in foster care in 1999. In 2003, this son found his biological mom and chose to live with her. We know the joys and sorrows that come with taking in these older kids, but they need love and a home. Today, we are raising the son of the girl who came to live with us. He is 6 soon to be 7 yrs. old. I am so thankful for the Spirit of Adoption!

  9. We love all of GOD’s children with 3 biological, 4 adopted and a few sponsored in other countries! 🙂

  10. My husband and I adopted then 11 year old Latrell and 5 year old Chanya October 22 of last year, that December we also gave birth to baby number 6. We went from 5 to 8 children in just a couple of months!! Our adopted children were in the foster care system and were in a not so good placement when we met them, so the social worker moved them into our house just two days after meeting them and the adoption was finalized 90 days after that. I can’t believe it’s been over a year and yet it’s like they have been here tier whole lives!! We love adoption!!!!

  11. I was adopted at age 7 into my forever family….adopted at age 9 into the family of God…..adopted our daughter at almost 3 years old (she came at 6 weeks as a foster baby). So many of my husbands family have adopted, that the balance of adopted and not adopted are just about even. 🙂 I love that there is an entire month to celebrate adoption. Congratulations to all!

  12. We have felt for a long while that we will adopt one day..one day is getting closer and we are so excited! thank you for this giveaway and for supporting adoption! 🙂

  13. We have 2 adopted daughters, 4 that I birthed, 1 baby boy due any minute, a foster daughter that we loved as our own for over 2 years until the jugde returned her to her birthmom, the desire to adopt again, and the deep hope of educating people about the joys of adoption.

  14. My husband and I have adopted 4 children, 2 through private adoption and 2 through foster care. The 2 through private adoption were newborn and the 2 through foster care were 6 and 11 months. They are now 16, 14, 13 and 11. Sometimes it has been a challenge but we know that God brought us these children for a reason. Everyday we feel blessed to be raising our children to know Christ. I think we led the way for others in my husband’s family to adopt. Bonnie, who previously posted about her adoption, is a sister-in-law. My husband has a niece who has also adopted 2 children and a nephew who adopted his stepson.

  15. I would LOVE to win this shirt! Adoption has always been close to my heart, but not so much my husband’s. This year, for my daughter’s AHG service project work, we decided to advocate for a little boy from Reece’s Rainbow. Our family is his Christmas and Prayer warriors. It’s really opening my husband’s heart, and I’m praying that this time next year, we have an amazing new blessing added to our family!

  16. While in the first grade, I came home and matter of factly told my mother that when I grew up, I was going to adopt. After I married, and moved to another state, we became foster parents. The day before Thanksgiving, the dept. called and had a newborn in another county and no where to place him. No hesitation. “Bring him to us.” Not even a month later, it was laid on our hearts that this beautiful baby was to be our first child. We had to repeat the long, difficult process it takes to become a foster parent, only this time to become a forever parent, and then we finally got the word, he was officially our son. Almost 19 years later, I sat last night with my son and looked thru his “adoption story” of photos and little story lines adding small baby stories of my own. His adoption was unique. I tell him God placed him with us because we were not actively looking to adopt when he was placed with us. But he stole our hearts and I am so proud to be able to say I am his mother. He is such a blessing, my first miracle. He is my son.

  17. I would love to win this shirt! My hubby and I are about to start training/certification to become a respite family for foster/adoptive families. We will watch their biological/foster kids while the parents get away for a weekend or longer. We are sponsoring four kids… two through Compassion and two through Casa de Amor. And now we are praying and asking God to open the doors for US citizens to be able to adopt from Bolivia without having to move there and become a legal resident so that we could adopt from Casa de Amor. We are praying and asking God to show us if and from where He would like us to adopt.

  18. Love this. We have 2 girls from China and they are such a joy and delight to our world. I love how people have already mentioned sponsorship. We have 6 kids we sponsor with World Vision.

Great stories here!! And for those who want to adopt, don’t give up 🙂

  19. So glad to see this post. Our lives have been blessed by adoption. All of our 4 children arrived in our lives by God’s grace and arrangement. My oldest daughter’s (24) from Russia, but my first child is our son(18) I just posted on our blog the miracle of his arrival that was nothing short of God ordained. He is through the blessing of open adoption. And to keep things interesting God led us again 6 years ago and then this year to China for our youngest princesses (6 and 7). So many people will say, especially of the girls how “lucky” they are, but my husband and I know we are the ones who are truly “lucky” and blessed.
We have homeschooled and are homeschooling all.

  20. I would love a shirt! We fostered and then adopted our almost 3 yr old son with severe special needs. We can’t adopt any more at this time due to the huge commitment his medical care requires- but perhaps in the future.

  21. My husband and I adopted our son 2.5 years ago and he has brought such joy to our lives! We thank our God daily for him and pray that the Lord will make the provisions needed for us to adopt him a sibling! I love praying for and encouraging those who are “taking care of the orphans.” God bless you all! By the way, LOVE the t-shirt!

  22. I am so blessed to be the aunt to three adopted children. I hope that we have the resources one day to adopt and give our two children the brother and sister they’ve been asking for.

  23. We have experienced the joy of adopting our daughter who just turned 14 months old. We also have a son (biological) and are praying about adopting a sibling group (domestically).

  24. I’ve got the sweetest 12 year old through adoption and am waiting on number 2 (and possibly 3!) now–who knew my love for adoption as a girl would pan out as it has?

  25. O would love to win an adoption t-shirt.Our family has been blessed with two adopted children. Our lives have been greatly enriched through adoption. Has it always been easy? No. God has used our journey to speak volumes to my husband and I. Lord willing we will adopt Internationally someday.

  26. My husband and I are mailing out our application to adopt on Friday (we missed the mail today). We should find out in, I believe, less than a month if we are pre-approved. We already know what child we would like to bring home. I would love to have one of these t-shirts to promote adoption awareness. Thank you for the opportunity!

You can read about our journey here http://bringinghomeboylaroy.blogspot.com/.

  27. Adoption is very near and dear to our hearts and if the Lord leads, our future. Thank you for the awareness you are raising to this need.

  28. Adoption is a wonderful choice for many families. I have three adopted children – my oldest was adopted from Guatemala when he was four. My youngest two were adopted domestically from the foster care system (I was a single again mom for the last two). They were 8 and 11 when they arrived. While adoption is a wonderful Christ-honoring institution, it should not be entered lightly, especially with older children. Unfortunately, our foster care system sometimes works so long to reunify families that the children are terribly scarred emotionally by the time they enter a permanent home. One of my children has ongoing, serious struggles. Fortunately, I have been able to find help, but it has been grueling and is not for everyone. That said, I felt it was God calling me to do it, so I would do it again.

  29. I would love to have this t-shirt! My family was blessed in dec. 2009 with a newborn baby boy who officially became ours last November! Although the adoption process was a very bumpy and expensive road for us because of many potential fathers that we worried would try to stop the adoption, we look back now and would do it all over again to have him as part of our family! He is our gift from God and we thank Him and are truly grateful to the birth mom for allowing us to be his parents!

  30. We have been blessed 4 times – two biological sons and two daughters from China. I also volunteer with Love Without Boundaries and am an advocate for the children still waiting. I would love to adopt again, someday.
Thank you for this wonderful giveaway!
