I started out the new year with one goal in mind. One resolution. I’ve been working since then to keep it. My resolution was to get more organized. I need to get organized in so many ways! I need to organize my house, my closets, my pantry, my schedule, and my homeschool. I know I can’t tackle everything at once, so I’m working on one thing at a time. I decided that organizing my homeschool needed to come first. Since that’s what I spend a large part of my day doing, it just makes sense to begin there.

I happen to live in a state that doesn’t require me to keep strict paperwork or portfolios or those kinds of records for my homeschool. Even though that’s the case, I want to keep track of what my children have done and learned each year. I also personally prefer to work from lesson plans. If I don’t use plans, it’s too easy to get off track. I don’t always stick strictly to my lesson plans, but they are a good way to make sure we get at least the basics done each week.

I recently had the opportunity to use and review Rhino SchoolTracker for the Hip Homeschool Moms, and it is fitting in perfectly with my goal for this year! I’m using Rhino SchoolTracker to keep up with courses, scores (grades), lesson plans, attendance, and more. In the past, I’ve always used a notebook and written out my lesson plans for each of my children. Using this program to keep track of my lesson plans has been even better, though. For one, it’s much faster and easier to type them in than to write them out by hand. Also, the typed plans are much easier for my kids to read. And if they want to print out the day’s lesson plans to keep on-hand, they can. If not, they can just pull them up on the computer.

At the end of the year (or whenever you need to do it according to the laws in your state and/or your preferences), you can print out an attendance summary, grade report, or transcript. And you can keep track of these things quickly and easily by just updating each day. It doesn’t take long at all! (And that’s great because most homeschooling moms I know don’t have a lot of extra time.)

The program isn’t super fancy. It doesn’t have alarms or whistles or music. It’s just a simple tool to help you save time and effort. I like it that way. I don’t need a program that requires 3 weeks to learn how to use it. I just need something simple and fast, and that’s what this is!

Another thing I really like is the price! First, you get a free 30-day trial. After that, you can either pay $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year. I think it’s great to have the two options because some of us school year-round and others take summers off. This way, you only have to pay for the part of the school year that you actually use the program.

I’m happy to tell you about Rhino SchoolTracker, and I hope you will give it a try and let me know what you think!
