“No Mess” Taco Burgers

Sharing is caring!

No Mess Taco Burgers make for a fun meal that I used to make when my kiddos were little. Everyone loves a good taco, but managing a taco can be difficult for little hands. The shell breaks or the filling falls all over the table…laps…floor. The family dog might appreciate it, but who wants to mop the floor after every meal? Forming the taco meat into burgers takes all of that away, and you have a taco that is kid (and kitchen) friendly.

To begin, you will need 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef or bison. Break it up with your fingers, in a mixing bowl until it is loose pieces. This makes it easier to mix in the other ingredients. Add in 2 tablespoons of chili powder, 2 teaspoons of ground cumin, 1/2 teaspoon each of salt, pepper & onion powder and 2 cloves of grated garlic. Stir this until it is all mixed as well as possible.

Form the mixture into 5 or 6 burger patties.  For the next part, I am afraid that I forgot to snap a photo, but I’m sure you can follow along. Heat a large cast iron or stainless steel skillet over medium high heat until it is nice and hot. Place the burgers in the skillet and let them cook for 3 minutes on one side. Turn them all over, reduce the heat to medium and place a cover on the skillet to hold the heat it and cook them through. That should take about 3 minutes on that side as well.

When the burgers are done, take a large tortilla (burrito size) and stack some lettuce in the center. Place a hot taco burger on the lettuce. Top this with shredded cheese, guacamole, salsa, sour cream or anything else you like on a taco. Then simply fold the tortilla around everything inside like you are wrapping a present. Tadaa!!! You have a perfect taco that you could eat with one hand if you wanted! You can cut the “package” in half if you like, but we usually just eat it like a burger.

Enjoy!
