Hey Homeschool Mom, Are You Overwhelmed Also?

Hey Homeschool Mom, Are you overwhelmed also? It's so easy to become overwhelmed with life isn't it?

With …

Homeschooling.

Cooking.

Cleaning.

Grocery shopping.

Laundry.

Errands.

Paying bills.

Church obligations.

Family obligations.

And that’s only part of the list!

Most of us also serve as unofficial family doctor, chauffeur, and field-trip coordinator.

And many of us work outside of the home or have work-from-home jobs too!

To be honest, I’ve had times recently when I was almost on the verge of panic. I’ve felt tired, stressed, overwhelmed, and unfocused. I think all of us have days (or weeks! or even months!) when we feel that way sometimes. When I feel that way, it’s easy to question God. After all, God could heal my severely autistic daughter if He chose to. And He could heal my son who has Asperger’s and my other daughter who has ADHD. (And while He’s at it, He could make them all a little more compliant! 😉 ) He could bless us with the money to hire a housekeeper to help get things done. He could make me more organized and efficient so I could get more done in less time. There are so many ways God could alter my situation to make life easier for all of us! Yet those mountains remain unmoved.

For a long time–many years–it upset me that God didn’t do something. Change something. But lately I’ve started to realize that I may never know (until I get to Heaven) why God doesn’t change my circumstances. I don’t think it’s wrong to ask God to heal my children or change my circumstances, but I do think it’s important to stop allowing myself to be frustrated or upset when God doesn’t do things my way. Why? Because only God can see past my current circumstances to the future. Only He knows why I have to go through certain things at certain times. And only He can make sure that everything in my life and my family works out for the best for all of us!

Romans 8:28: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
Yes, of course I sometimes wonder how a certain circumstance could possibly be what’s best for myself or my family. I’m human. Sometimes it’s hard to trust God. If I had a choice I probably wouldn’t choose to go through difficult times even if I know they’re for my own good. But I can choose to trust God when I go through difficult times. To be honest, hard times will happen anyway, so it makes sense to trust the only One who can see the future and who knows how it will work out.
No, I don’t claim to know why God doesn’t heal my children. I don’t know why my inability to keep my house clean could be for my own good. I’m not sure why I’m so disorganized and why God doesn’t give me the ability to keep up with things a little better! But no matter what, I do know that at the very least God will use these situations to help me know better how to encourage others who are going through similar situations. And I know He can use these situations to teach me to rely on Him and not myself.
2 Corinthians 1:4, Paul wrote that “God comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
So right now, I'm praying that God will help me trust Him even when I don't know why certain things are happening in my life. I’m choosing to remember that God loves my children more than I can possibly understand and that He wants the best for them. And I’m committing not to “help God out” by doing things my own way. (That never works out very well anyway, does it?) And I’m believing that God will honor my efforts to honor Him and that He’ll keep His promises to my family and to me.
So next time you get depressed or anxious or upset when things are hard, remember that God will take care of you. He loves you. He wants to do what’s best for you and those you love. It may be hard to understand sometimes, but we can be sure that whatever we’re going through will work out for our best in the long run.

  1. Thank you for the encouragement. My biggest prayer need right now is my health issues. Also, healing for my heart, and mind, my children included.

  2. I feel so behind now that we have 5 kids. I feel guilty because my bigs are not getting enough of me since the baby and toddler take up so much time.
