DIY Orange Coconut Sugar Scrub

If you’re looking for a quick and easy Christmas or birthday gift, this is a great idea! It takes only a few minutes to make, it smells great, and you can decorate (or not!) the jar that you put it in before giving it away.

Each Christmas season, I normally find myself needing a few last minute gifts for music teachers, Sunday School teachers, and other special people in our lives that we like to give a little something to to show them our appreciation.  This sugar scrub recipe can be whipped up in under 5 minutes and the recipe calls for only a few simple ingredients.  A glass container with a lid can be purchased at a dollar store.  A glass mason jar would work great too.

With this recipe, you can substitute different oils and herbs to create different scents.  How about lavender essential oil or dried lavender flowers?  Or peppermint essential oil with dried peppermint leaves?  It’s easy to personalize this recipe to the scent you think your recipient will enjoy.  Please note that if you use a scent like lavender or peppermint, you will likely have to adjust the amount of essential oil drops since the scent is stronger than orange.

Let’s look at the ingredients in this sugar scrub to see why it’s so good for the skin.

Sugar

I prefer to use a healthy sugar like organic cane sugar, or a non-GMO, unrefined sugar.

  • Exfoliates the skin, and gives it a deep cleanse
  • Promotes glowing skin
  • Improves the color and texture of skin
  • Hydrates the skin
  • Stimulates lymph fluids
  • Softens the skin

Coconut Oil

  • Moisturizing
  • Strengthens underlying tissue
  • Exfoliates
  • Anti-aging
  • Antiviral
  • Antifungal

Orange Essential Oil and Orange Peel

  • Reduces muscle spasms
  • Increases blood circulation
  • Helps digestive fluids

  1. Hi Jill! I was wondering what is the shelf life of the sugar scrub? Sounds wonderful…can almost smell it from here 🙂 Thanks!

    1. Extra virgin coconut oil has an indefinite shelf life, as well as the sugar. The dried orange peel is the only thing that would start to lose its potency after 2 or 3 years. I would say that 2-3 years would be a good estimate for this sugar scrub. 🙂
