First, we read the verses below. You can get the full list in the free printable in this post.

1. Psalm 139:13-14

2. 1 Peter 2:9

3. Psalm 119:73-74

4. Isaiah 64:8

Next, we talked about how God cares about us and how special we are. We discussed the meaning of “special” and “unique.”

We set up our art station with 2 giant notebook sheets on our wall, some water-based paint, some texture scrapers, and some foam brushesas well as some regular child-sized brushes. God Made Me Special Crafts {Free Printable}

My son decided to use reds, oranges, and yellows for his unique and special creation. He was focused and very determined on what he wanted. As they worked, I read the whole list of verses out loud and had classical music playing in the background.

His favorite scripture verse out of the list was Ephesians 2:10: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” God Made Me Special Crafts {Free Printable}

My daughter requested pinks, purples and greens for her creation. At first, she was walking me through the process, which is ok to do for some children. It is good to think out loud sometimes! She was going on and on about how she wanted her tree to be purple and the fruit to be pink. Then she changed her mind and decided to incorporate both pinks and purples to the entire tree.

Once I noticed that she was in her element and quieted down, I started reading the scripture verses out loud to them. She told me that her favorite verse from the list was “the one about the hairs and the birds.” I’m pretty sure she meant Matthew 10:29-31: “What is the price of two sparrows–one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” God Made Me Special Crafts {Free Printable}

Once the trees dried, we wrote “God made me unique. I am special.” I even had the chance to make one, too! I picked two shades of blue and red for the foliage. The tree trunk is brown with a few branches. This is our finished product. They are all very special, very different, and definitely unique! Both of them were proud of their creations and happy to know that they are as special and unique to God as their tree crafts are to them.
