Stunning Spring School Photos

Nothing says school more than a school bus, right? Ironically, this is the location I chose for my three homeschool students’ spring photos. As soon as I began homeschooling, I made it a point to take “school photos.” Our local school did fall and spring photos, and I followed suit. It is amazing to look back and see how much my kids change between fall and spring each year! I have used various locations over the years. A brick wall in our downtown, a park setting, a school bus, a cool door, and even a bush in our yard. Gone are the days of being limited to potentially high stress indoor environments for photos. Take it outside and MAKE IT FUN! Follow these five tips for stunning spring student photos.

1. Don’t stress!

It is a “photo.” A photo can easily be retaken if necessary. Even schools have “Retake Days.” Less stress equals more authentic personality, and THAT is what we are after! I know that stress is often very present whenever a camera comes around, but remember, dear mama…you set the tone! Make it FUN! Be silly, make silly faces, and enjoy these milestones.

2. Location!

Try out some different locations. Your local downtown can be a great resource for interesting walls, doors, and other creative architecture. Try parks or even your own yard! The traditional front door shot is always a favorite too!

3. Composition!

I always take a close up and a semi/full length shot.

4. Clothing!

Go with whatever works for your desired look. If you like traditional, go with a polo shirt or solid tee. This year, I decided to let the kids pick out their own clothes. I like that option because they picked their favorites, and it is fun to have that captured!

5. Print them!

Find a great local or online source to print those photos! Get them off of your computer and show them off! Print some wallets and take them to your local co-op, and let the kids trade photos! Also, make sure to send some to the grandparents!

You do not need to be a professional to get those photos taken. Grab a smart phone, a point and shoot, or a fancy camera, and capture your students this spring!

How about you? Do you take student photos???
