Real Life Homeschooling in Photos

We allll have a vision of homeschooling, don’t we?

Siblings interacting.
Ideas clicking.
A relaxed teacher.
Finishing school before noon and finishing Pinterest projects and errands in the afternoon.

I HAD those visions too. I still have them at the end of a ‘REAL’ day.

Sometimes all the homeschool blogs and articles out there can really be encouraging. However, sometimes I feel like if people saw the truth on *some* days…oh boy! It isn’t all Bible verses and squishy kisses, I tell ya.

So, just in case you feel this way too….here are some photos I’ve snapped over the passed couple months with my phone. These are real. This is life. It’s still beautiful. We’re still learning. We’re still loving. We may not always be calm. We may yell. But we love and learn together through it all!

  1. I think in this world of technology it is so incredibly easy to feel like you don’t measure up. (Right now? I’m avoiding a stack of dishes in the sink, and a 4 year olds bedroom that is so messy I can’t even walk in there to tuck her in without stepping on a dozen toys!) So posts like this remind us that we often only put our “best face” forward for the world to see!!

Life is chaotic, and I appreciate this post so much right now!

  2. Praise The Lord for honest people! Well, you can come to my house too and feel right at home too!
Love the children, home school and the brethren!

  3. I love, love, love this honest and realistic peak into what homeschooling families really look like! I’m glad I’m not the only one! No homeschooler would ever have admitted to this waayyy back in the 80’s, when we first began homeschooling!

  4. Oh you made me laugh with joy this morning – a Mom who is honest and real. Yes you will have those days – maybe a little of that every day. but those precious ones are learning. Before the age of 5 – that is what my house looked like every time my husband came home from work. I did put my kids in public school but then I went back to teaching – 🙂 We still had lots of those days.
    Blessings,

  5. Oh my goodness, what a great laugh! Yes, that is homeschooling on many a day. I never thought it would be roses and sunshine, but I have been routinely surprised at how much we can learn in pajamas, on trampolines, during fits, while running around in the van, early in the morning, late at night…. Thank you so much for sharing and for keeping it real!

  6. It looks like my house!!! I homeschool my children using mainly the montessori approach to education and life…But if Maria Montessori would walk into my home she would die again! jajaj

  7. Thank you SO much for this post. Looks very much like my own home with two crazy toddlers and another on the way. I often have feelings of “I don’t think I can do this” when I look at my life and my world compared to the way homeschooling is represented in blogs. Thanks for being REAL = )

  8. This was a great post, thanks for sharing! We haven’t started HSing yet as mine are all still too young but this is what I always envisioned *my* HSing experience would look like. Now I know its ok if (when!) it does! 🙂

  9. Thanks so much for posting your real life. I am so happy to see that I am not the only one with kids running around half dressed in a messy house. Love this so much!!!

  10. Thank you so much for this. My house feels like it’s like this almost all the time, especially with a 5 month old that never sleeps :). It’s nice to see the reality of homeschooling rather than the beautifully clean homes that have all their supplies all neatly organized. This is what homeschooling is all about LOL 🙂

  11. Thanks for sharing. As a new to homeschooling mom starting in fall…. A lot of what I see EVERYWHERE s super intimidating and I’m often afraid of failing to meet a false standard created by the best faces we often put forward. Thanks for keeping it real!

  12. We home school our kids and try to instill in them some responsibility with regards to tidiness and keeping their books packed away properly. It’s a matter of repeat, repeat and repeat some more 🙂 Have you read the book ” Have a new kid by Friday” I forget the author, but is certainly worth reading for any parents, especially those of us who have the added responsibility of home schooling our kids.
