A New Day

A New Year … and it’s a whole long year ahead.  A year is made up of single days.  We receive them as a gift, just one of them at a time.  Delightfully packaged in this world created just for us.  The Bible tells us in Matthew,
.
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
.
Take no thought for the morrow – focus on the day at hand.  With that in mind, I found this quote to share.
.
.
Lets read this together line by line …
.
Finish each day and be done with it.
Huge one for me, if you have a bad day, do you dwell on it the next?  If things have not gone as planned with a child, do you remind them of their behaviour the next morning, which in turn sets the tone for a whole ‘nother day.  I know that I do it often. Finish.Each.Day.
You have done what you could.
If we approach each day, giving it our all, giving it our best – then at the end of it, you will know that you have done what you could.  And read it again, you have done … yes, its done, its over, you can make a difference for the next day but this one is over … takes us back to line one really, doesn’t it?
Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can
Forget all that didn’t work the day before, put it behind you … you can’t change what has already been, but you can learn from it and move on. (do not clutter your mind with woulda, shoulda, coulda)
Tomorrow is a new day
A new day will dawn no matter what the one before brought us.  We have the chance for a do over each and every day.  This should encourage us to always look forward and not dwell on the past.
You shall begin it serenely
What better way to start your day but in quiet reflection. I know I am guilty of sliding out of bed, making my coffee, checking my email, looking at Twitter … not the most serene of beginnings.
And with too high a spirit
Feed your soul, nourish your mind and yes, your spirit will soar
To be encumbered with your old nonsense
How easily do we allow ourselves to be burdened with our past mistakes? But here it tells us to put them behind us, they are already gone, a part of our history and not a part of our future, because …
… we are done with it.
.
.
This new day of this new month of this new year ….
.
New beginnings, new opportunities and new promise, 2 Corinthians 5:17 says,
.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
.
We need to remind ourselves to always look forward, that each new day that dawns is a gift.
.
Unwrap it in all of its God given glory.

  1. Oh wow… this is amazing, Nicole! It’s incredible how applicable the Bible has always been to our daily lives. It’s ageless relevance is astounding. And what a great job you did in interpreting those words and applying them into your life. So, so true, dear friend!

  2. I love the grace in this. I can’t figure out why I so easily succumb to expectations that God has not set for me. He gives us grace to accomplish what He calls us to do, and He is the God of provision. He provides what my children REALLY need…education included. Sometimes, it’s just really hard to let go and trust that I am not carrying all of the burden of their teaching! Blessings!
