My children began their ‘school years’ in public schools. One thing they have missed…is Physical Education. While we have not invested (yet) in a curriculum, we have been blessed with great parks, bikes, scooters, karate, etc. However, there are many skills and activity that an appropriate Physical Education can teach children, and help bring balance to any family’s schedule.
Two weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to review Family Time Fitness. I have to admit, I was and still am quite excited about this program. Family Time Fitness provides a very healthy and well rounded homeschool Physical Education curriculum for homeschool families. Their program is lead by three individuals who have completed extensive studies in childhood Physical Education, to provide the best curriculum available, with a high standard…thus, taking all of the hard work and guessing out of the mix for busy families providing education for their children at home.
Your subscription to their program begins with a wonderfully written email and documentation regarding your daily activities. The documentation includes a Parent/Teacher Guide, What to expect, Safety information, teaching tips, assessment tools and tips for integrating this curriculum into your daily routine. In addition, you will receive daily emails that will help serve as reminders and provide you with additional tips for both exercising and nutrition! Last but not least in this list…you will access to their Core Physical Fitness Level 1 for life.
Each day, you have a warm up, activities for strength and flexibility, as well as endurance, games to play and cool down exercises. The documentation explains each activity, is well written and easy to understand. I, however, am a very visual person…and took advantage of the videos linked to each activity within the curriculum documentation.
Examples of these activities include, but are not limited to:
- The Plank
- Crab Walk
- Ankle Alphabet Exercise (I was very partial to this exercise. My daughter is dyslexic and I could see her visibly thinking through and sounding out the letters…really making her mind connect with her movement. My 4 year old had a great time trying to ‘write the letters’ he is currently learning!)
- Rope Jumps
- Ball Exercises
I have to admit, I have been extremely pleased with this curriculum. My children and I have enjoyed exercising together. This has added more laughter to our days, and given my son the PE he misses from Public school. I highly recommend this program and know that our homeschool days will be much brighter, as we work, sweat a little and laugh a lot!! The cost for the program is very moderate considering you are receiving a one year subscription and it is just like having your own personal trainer for you and your children!
